Medical Clinical Assistant

The Medical Clinical Assistant plays a vital role in the health care industry. Physicians rely on their office skills as well as their medical training to assist in nursing homes, clinics, hospitals, home health agencies, physician offices and other health care facilities. The medical field is an ever-changing one, with constant advances in diagnostic procedures and treatment protocols. This course is aimed to prepare students for entry-level positions as medical assistants in a number of health care settings.

Course Description:

The course is divided into modules. Modules A – F pertain to theory and modules G &H relates to clinical. Students may enter into the program at the beginning of any module and continue until all modules are completed. After the successful completion of modules A-F students will participate in an externship (100 clock hours) and clinical (40 clock hours for BNA, if applicable). The externship is a supervised practical in-service program in a clinic, hospital or medical office. Students will practice skills acquired during the medical clinical assisting program.

  • Medical Insurance Billing & Coding*

  • Clinical Procedures for Medical Assistant

Upon successful completion of the program the student will be eligible to sit for one state exam* and four national exams*. Course duration is 590 clock hours without BNA/710 clock hours with BNA of theory/classroom laboratory over 27 to 32 weeks.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Assistants is one of the fastest growing occupations, from 2008 and projected through 2018. Median annual wages currently range from $28,300 to $30,000.
